On request of an Angel
This page came into being on August 17, 1999 after an angel
requested I write it as a comfort and a way for her to reach out to her friend.
Ashleigh Nordstrom whom had just that past month lost her father and was
still grieving put her own feelings and hurt aside to reach out to her friend
Josh Nelson who two months prior lost his brother. When Ashleigh wrote me, Josh
had only days before lost his father. My condolences go out to
both Ashleigh
and Josh. To both of you and your families. As I wrote this poem I shed every tear
you have and felt all the same hurt. I too have lost my father and my sister. I
only pray this simple poem can bring some small amount of comfort. May God bless
you.

Two Red Roses
Once we were five
and then we were four
A son had been lost,
dad could take it no more
And so to his lost son
he had to flee
Now we are here
just us three
Matt Chad and Josh
we were the brothers
There also was Ron and Ardis
Our father and our mother
We were all much alike
in our brotherly way
Having fun, lifting weights,
Those were the days
We all loved to party
and jet skiing all day long
An everyday normal family
then something went wrong
My friend and my brother
Matt he was gone
Lost in a car wreck
it was such a sad song
His life was just starting
and everything seemed so right
Then we got the phone call
and it cut like a knife
The voice on the phone
was solemn and sad
Chad and I sat and we cried
with our mom and our dad
Our lives they were crushed
on that very sad day
"May God rest your soul"
to the Lord I did pray

Matt you are the FIRST rose
I hold in my hand
I miss you dear brother
you were such a good man
Two months have passed, Matt
since you went away
Mom and dad they have grieved
so much everyday
The Nelson's, our family
was just not the same
The house was so empty
not hearing your name
I tried to be strong
for mom and for dad
To be a comfort to both,
was even there for Chad
But dad, he was suffering
much more then we knew
He held it all inside
and his heartache it grew
It festered and blossomed
took root and grew strong
And again to our family
something went wrong
Daddy dear daddy
could take it no more
His grief was too strong
and so he closed the door
His life is now over
he is no longer in pain
I pray his soul is in heaven
and salvation has gained
Matt my dear brother
I am asking you this
When you see dad up there
please give him a kiss
Tell him he was the best dad
yes, of course you did know
He was always there for us
and he helped us to grow
Tell him we are two men,
Chad and Josh are still here
We will take care of mom
so please have no fear

Tell dad he is the SECOND rose
I hold in my hand
I have had to grow much
and now I am a man
I shall forever miss you
my brother, my friend
And for you my dear father
my love has no end....

Angels Among Us
Angels are among us
we see them everyday
Sent to us from heaven
not only when we pray
They are God's way of sending comfort
they are His way of easing our pain
They walk beside us during the sunshine
and are there even during the rain
Sometimes we don't notice them
they all don't wear their wings
They come in all shapes and sizes
and sometimes as other things
Even though they don't look like the angels
we see and read about in the books
They are still no less God sent beings
they just all have different looks
Whenever we meet someone
who lends a helping hand
Just remember that beautiful poem
about the foot prints in the sand
These are our special angels
sent to us with love
From our Father up in heaven
on the wings of a white tailed dove
So do not reject your angel
please do not send them away
They may be right beside you
to give their love and help today
When someone comes to comfort you
when someone shows they care
It may be your special angel
with much love and comfort to share
So embrace your special angel
and welcome them to you
Accept God's gift of this treasure
with love afresh and new
