A Day Of Devastation
~January 12, 2010~
On the twelfth day of January
in the middle of the afternoon
The ground began shaking
in their world already doomed
Walls shook, the roofs caved in,
then all was left was dust in the air
The devastation and the nightmare
was too much for most to bear
In a minutes time, one third were gone
many more were scarred and maimed
There was much suffering and hurting
while all their hopes began to wane
They started digging with their hands
removing one heavy brick at a time
While calling out in desperation
for their families, under and dying
They looked to the sky and to the sea
for the help to arrive and to save
Then they turned to the Lord above
and in multitude, kneeled and prayed
They gave their heartache to the Lord
as they lifted their hands into the air
He told them to try and to hold on
as the world was coming and cared
Within hours the needed help started
the world responded with giving hands
Many searching through the rubble
others praying and taking a stand
Won't you please do your part to help
send whatever God lays on your heart
By giving you will also be blessed
and helping Haiti to make a new start

This poem was written with love and in memory
Your Child, Your Diaspora
As I look up
I see the moon
I see you my love
and my motherland
As I look up
I see my heart
I see it breaking
from loneliness
As I look up
I see my despair
I see my soul
and it is dieing
As I look up
I see the moon
I see it sadden
and grow ever dim
As I look up
I see tears
The tears of your Diaspora
oh beloved motherland
My dear sweet island home
so far away
If only to see your shores
one more time
Once more plant my feet
within my roots
and feel your soil
my home, and my strength
If only to embrace you
once again my beloved Haiti
To refresh my soul and
let my spirit soar
My Haiti, my heart
my motherland, my soul
Please do not forget me
your child, your Diaspora
