I dreamt I was a gypsy girl
with my tambourine
I danced my heart and soul out
for the Gypsy Queen

She came to pay a visit
to our gypsy camp
And in the midnight hour
I got up and I danced

The moon was full
the air was still
the music played
and I danced at will

The hypnotic sounds filled my mind
as I shook my tambourine in time
My feet seemed to glide as if on air
and pleasing the Queen was my only care

I whirled and I twirled to the music
that the gypsy band did play
The wind it rustled through my hair
on this warm spring night in May

And when my dance was over
I collapsed upon the ground
A silent hush came over the camp
and no one spoke a sound

The only noise that could be heard
were the crickets in the night
And the crackling of the bonfire
as it lit up the dark with light

The Gypsy Queen, she looked at me
and upon her face was a smile
Then I knew I had pleased her
and my dance had been worthwhile

I bore long after
It was heard no more."
