Remembering Cassidy
This page is dedicated to a little girl whom I never had the honor of meeting but through her heartfelt story told to me by her loving cousin Melissa I felt a need in my soul to make this small attempt to honor little Cassidy Danielle Mahedy. Her young life was shortened at the hands of a drunk driver on August 6, 2000 while playing in her front yard. With tears in my eyes and an ache in my heart, this is for you Cassie.
With love, Island Princess

Our Angel In Heaven

Cassidy Danielle is an angel today
she is in heaven with Jesus where she can safely play
Her life here was short but she gave so much love
our hearts float to heaven as we look up above

With tears in our eyes we said our goodbyes
her death was so senseless and that's why we cry
One minute she was here and playing in the sun
the next she was gone even though she tried to run

Struck down in an instant in her front yard
knowing how she died makes it so hard
The driver who hit Cassie was under aged and high
with a suspended license, and now we ask why

Why did they drink and get behind the wheel
do they know how we hurt and know how we feel
Do they have any regret for what they have done
our lives are all shattered and our bodies are numb

Our baby, our angel, who is gone from us now
lives there with Jesus up high in the clouds
She knew we are all a part of God's plan and
talked of hugging Jesus and holding his hand

Jesus reached down and Cassie held onto Him tight
no pain did she feel on that sorrowful night
Yes, our Cassidy Danielle is an angel today
she is in heaven with Jesus where she can safely play

Mommy I Am Sorry

Mommy I am sorry I couldn't go to school
I really wanted to read and write and
learn the golden rule

I was looking forwarded to riding the big yellow bus
Eating lunch with all the kids and
show and tell would be a plus

I would have made you so proud and studied hard
Done all of my homework
before playing in the yard

I wanted you to watch me walking across the stage
while receiving my diploma
on my graduation day

But these things that we planned are not meant to be
God needed another angel and so he picked me
Mommy don't cry I am here with you now
holding your heart and softly kissing your brow

This is one of the letters Cassidy's cousin Melissa wrote telling me of her angel.

Cassie had beautiful black bouncy curls and a fair complexion. Cassie had just attended Vacation Bible school for a week and was telling everyone she met that God has a plan for each and everyone of us. They told of this lesson at her funeral as Cassie would have wanted everyone to know.

She had been riding her big wheel up and down the sidewalk in her front yard. Her Dad, Mark called for her to come in side with him and as they walked up their front steps Mark heard the car and yelled for Cassie to run. She did, and he reached out to her and just as his finger tips touched her hand the car hit her and propelled her away from his grasp and into the neighbors yard.

Her mother Stacey, a pediatric intensive care nurse for a local hospital was at work . It was Sunday Aug. 6, 2000 @ 7:00 pm. She held on until about midnight and we all said our goodbyes, she never woke up so she never felt any pain.

It was so strange she talked about giving Jesus a big hug the day before the accident. It is a great comfort to her parents to know their angel is now God's Angel.

The girl who hit Cassie was 18 and twice the legal alcohol limit. She had been at a bar that did not ID her. As I am writing this she is out on a $100,00.00 bound. She wrote a letter in jail to her friends about going to the bars and partying again soon. She lost her license in May for drinking and driving. She did not complete the 10 hours of community service that were part of her punishment. I am sorry to say that without remorse we cannot ask for forgiveness and without forgiveness there will always be an ache in our soul. Melissa may not realize the gravity of what she has caused to happen but when she does I hope she will pray to God to forgive her. Without our savior beside us we are lost. Cassady had Jesus in her heart and though we may have lost her, she will be forever found in the kingdom of Heaven!

The day before Cassie died I went school shopping with Cass and Stacey, she would have started kindergarten on Aug. 24 with my middle son Brett. Cassie loved to play at Aunt Nancy and Uncle Dales house ( my parents ) with her cousins Zach (7) Brett (5) and Spencer ( 10 months ), she would cry when it was time to leave. We love her very much and she will be missed greatly until we see her again in the gates of heaven.
