Catherine Ellis, mother, grandmother, sister and friend will always be
remembered
with love and affection by those who knew
her. She was virtually an Angel on Earth.
Dedicating her time up and until her last
month of life volunteering at the Angel Food Ministry.
Catherine loved Angels and was an avid
collector of them. She surrounded herself with these
celestial beings and in our hearts she
was our "Little Angel".
Catherine was married to her soul mate
Granville for over 50 years. And when he passed away
in 1989 she quietly missed him until Dec.
8, 2003. On that evening she joined him in Heaven along with their infant son who passed away a
few days after birth.
I found the following poem Catherine had with her
beloved's belongings and I am sure it meant much to her and she would often
times say her daily prayers and read these words. This poem was a comfort to
her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I little knew that morning,
That God was going to call your name.
In life I loved you dearly
In death I do the same.
It breaks my heart to lose you
You did not go alone.
For part of me went with you
When God called you home.
You left me peaceful memories,
Your love is still my guide.
And though I cannot see you
You are always at my side.
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again
Next I would like to share with you the beautiful speech give by Catherine's
grandson Aaron Ghadiyali at her funeral on December 12, 2003
Catherine Ellis
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend
3 Days…3 Hours, these are the figures of time that echo in the hearts and minds
of our family, a symbolic reminder of her love, the lord’s love for her, and the
time between his initial call and her spiritual departure to a plane of
divinity.
As her last earthly breaths passed she was given whole heartedly by a family
that was blessed the breath of life through her love and affection. Without her,
so many of us here today as family members would not experience our calling or
an existence. As friends, we would have missed so many good times, ones of
laughter and joy.
She was not just the glue of so many of our lives, but a strong woman that
experienced so many things that many of us never will. I believe the last few
minutes of her life included a flash of 90 years, all in a few moments worth of
time. Every experience we’ll never know, but for certain, times of simplicity
turned into ones of complexity, the world we live in today.
Times that included the first Christmas lights in 1917, man’s first radio
broadcast in 1920 on KDKA. In 1927 kids were found eating PEZ candy and
Americans enjoyed television for the first time. All the while she lived through
the great depression, wars and difficult trials. 34 Years into her life in 1947
the first instant camera was invented, which today has helped us collect so many
precious memories and moments of her. Or how about the invention of the first
computer systems that so many future generations will come to rely on. She
experienced it all.
The world changed in front of her eyes at an accelerated pace. While raising 5
children and then even more in her latter years, her perseverance was not just
characteristics of a strong woman, but a compassionate one. She helped to feed
the less fortunate and has further inspired others to help those in need. The
memories of her will go on forever and while we are mourning our loss, let us
not forget to also celebrate her life. I have faith this is the way she would
have wanted it. God bless Catherine Ellis.
November 4th, 1913 to December 8th, 2003.
